LAS VEGAS (Dec. 12, 2019) – Lee Canyon hosts the fifth annual Chris Ruby Cup, Saturday, January 11, 2020, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event benefits Nevada Donor Network, a nonprofit that coordinates, recovers, and allocates lifesaving organs and tissues for Nevada transplant patients. The race is open to skiers and snowboarders of all ages and ability levels. Registration will be available at the event and is $20; all proceeds go to Nevada Donor Network. Lee Canyon will cover registration fees for registered organ donors, and people can register to become a donor at the event.
The Chris Ruby Cup is a part of a weekend-long celebration of Lee Canyon’s new Hillside Lodge; the grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony for Hillside Lodge is Friday, Jan. 11, 2020 at 10 a.m.
The Chris Ruby Cup celebrates the life of Chris Ruby, a 20-year-old Las Vegas resident, and snowboarder who passed away in 2014. A registered organ donor, Ruby’s donated organs and tissues have saved the lives of over 90 patients. To date, Chris’ story and the event are responsible for adding more than 5,000 registered organ and tissue donors to Nevada Donor Network.
“We designed the Chris Ruby Cup to be a fun, all-inclusive event and non-competitive race that provides an opportunity to celebrate Chris’s life and learn more about the Nevada Donor Network,” said Jim Seely, Lee Canyon’s director of marketing and technology. In 2017, Lee Canyon was received Nevada Donor Network’s Community Champion Award.
“Chris’ story continues to inspire people in our community,” added Seely.
Chris Ruby Cup’s course is a fun banked slalom run where racers compete to win a variety of prizes, including a 2020-2021 Lee Canyon All Access season pass and a 2020-2021 Battle Born season pass. The event also features live music and a vendor fair.

“On behalf of the entire Nevada Donor Network team, we thank Lee Canyon for their ongoing support of our lifesaving mission. Their efforts to honor donor hero Chris Ruby and his courageous family by hosting the Chris Ruby Cup each year inspires others to make the gift of hope possible by registering as an organ, eye and tissue donor,” said Joe Ferreira, president and CEO of Nevada Donor Network. “Together, we have the power to save those who desperately wait for the lifesaving gift of a transplant. We are humbled by and grateful for strong community partners like Lee Canyon whose support saves and heals lives.”
