Lee Canyon announced today that its rebranded youth ski and snowboard competition Little Air and Style is Monday, Feb. 21, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year’s event takes place on Rabbit Peak and is open to skiers and snowboarders between 4 and 13 years old. Kids will compete by age category and discipline and be judged on a slopestyle run through features that include beginner jumps and jib features. Children of all ability levels are encouraged to participate. There is no charge to compete, but entrants must register to participate. Registration opens at 10 a.m. on race day; competitors must have a season pass or purchase a daily lift ticket online.
Since 2014, Lee Canyon’s month-long Mountaineers and Freeride programs, held in January and February, finished with a competition. (Mountaineers is a skier-only program for kids 3 to 6 years old. Freeriders is a skier and snowboarder program for kids ages 7 to 12.) Today, with hundreds of local kids now alumni of Lee Canyon’s youth programs, the two events have been combined to create Little Air and Style, which is open to all youth, including youth program participants, alumni, and other local kids.
“Little Air and Style is a fun and inclusive event for kids of every ability level. It’s meant to encourage Las Vegas’ next generation of skiers and snowboarders. With the added excitement of winter Olympics this year, everyone is fired up to see our local kids inspire one another,” said Jim Seely, Lee Canyon’s director of marketing. “Parents tell us that snow sports help their kids to develop confidence that they carry off the snow and into their future, which is worth celebrating.”
