Skye Canyon is Recognized for Creating a Healthy Place by Urban Land Institute Nevada’s Inaugural Placemaking Awards for Excellence

Urban Land Institute Nevada (ULI) honored Skye Canyon with a Placemaking Award for Excellence at its inaugural awards ceremony at World Market Center on Nov. 15, 2018. The master-planned development in northwest Las Vegas earned top honors in the Healthy Place Suburban category for its health-focused programming and amenities at Skye Canyon Park and throughout the community. The Placemaking Awards for Excellence recognize organizations that have projects, achievements or leaders dedicated to promoting health, happiness and well-being through responsible development.

The award honors the master-planned community for its “Skye Canyon Lifestyle” that provides unique active living experiences for its residents. Some of those offerings include Skye Canyon Park, 15-acres of open space for residents to enjoy activities like walking, biking and team sports, Skye Fitness, its Fit Lives Here event series that’s open to the public, along with resident only programs and charitable initiatives. The community’s Skye Pass program offers incentive pricing and other perks to residents at outdoor destinations like Lee Canyon and Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort.

ULI is a 501(c)(3) research and education nonprofit that is dedicated to creating better places for land use in public and private sectors. The organization brings together leaders from across the fields of real estate and policy making to exchange best practices of development to serve community needs.

“Skye Canyon identified a trend among homebuyers of wanting to live an active lifestyle and create strong community bonds, so it was important for us to incorporate offerings that support this lifestyle and are convenient,” said Desiree Van Leer, marketing manager for Olympia Companies, developer of Skye Canyon. “ULI’s recognition of Skye Canyon motivates our team to continue to develop quality programming that has a positive impact on our community and greater Las Vegas.”
